This one-year course combines lectures and workshops to explore all aspects of fiction writing. We will explore different aspects of the craft, as well as focus on scenes written by students to provide positive, constructive feedback on how each author might develop his or her work. Topics include: the anatomy of a scene, the fictive dream, point of view, voice, time, plot, tension, raising the stakes, characterization, the first and last chapter, dialogue versus narrative summary, and how to build a world.
