This full-day workshop focuses on drawing and painting nature subjects using pencils and watercolor paints.
You’ll learn how I use a field sketchbook to explore and record my outdoor observations, and I’ll show several watercolor field kits (including a very simple and portable kit for beginners!)
Next, we’ll delve into tone and color. We’ll discuss the importance of values, and then proceed to color theory and color temperature. We’ll explore ways to mix color and do some hands-on color-mixing exercises, with an emphasis on important color families for nature artists.
We’ll finish with some simple watercolor demonstrations aimed at de-mystifying the wash sequence by applying the concepts of local color and show pattern.
The 10am to 4pm program will include a one hour break for lunch. The program is designed for intermediate students, but beginners are also welcome.
A MATERIALS LIST will be provided for participants.
