“Attracting Birds, Butterflies, Bees and Other Beneficials,” a presentation offered by naturalist and landscaper John Root, describes the essential roles played by birds, pollinators, and other beneficial wildlife and provides guidance on meeting their needs for food, cover, and water. A variety of plants that nourish these organisms throughout their lifecycles is discussed, and organic methods for establishing wildlife habitat are also presented.

John leads edible wild plant walks and lectures on a variety of landscaping and nature topics at libraries, nature centers, senior centers, and other venues throughout New England. He also promotes the creation of pollinator habitat through his participation in Western Massachusetts Pollinator Networks and is active in establishing community orchards for local food resilience.
John is a member of the Ecological Landscapers Association and is an accredited Organic Landscape Professional through Northeast Organic Farming Association.
