BoCoCelli – Cello Concert Performance

March 27, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

BoCoCelli is an octet of extraordinary cellists from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, directed by Rhonda Rider (Harvard Music Festival). They have performed at the Kennedy Center, Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), on the Boston Celebrity Series, and recorded for SiriusXM (Washington D.C.) and Power Station, a New York recording studio celebrated for sessions with such artists as Bruce Springsteen, Herbie Hancock, Bob Dylan and Madonna.

This March they will present a concert of music from Bach to cutting edge contemporary. Included in the program are the imaginative and delightful cello octets by Brazilian composer Dimitri Cervo and Haitian American composer Sydney Guillaume. Also on the program are two works commissioned for the octet by Native American composers Sage Bond and Michael Begay.
There will be two world premieres on the program by composers Sage Bond and Michael Begay. Both composers were students at the Native American Composer Apprenticeship Program and are now pursuing degrees in music at Peabody Conservatory and Northern Arizona State University. The works are experimental and highly imaginative. Michael Begay’s “Spring” evokes the beginning of spring with bird calls and very unusual sounds played off a graphic score which will be on display at the concert. Sage Bond says about her piece “Unearth”: “I had several influences from Beethoven’s Eroica to Norwegian black metal bands… what “Unearth” means to me is being totally transparent with yourself, to others, and facing adversities. The only way to succeed is to persevere through struggle.”

Rhonda Rider is a founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning Lydian Quartet & Triple Helix Piano Trio and has numerous chamber music and solo recordings nominated for Grammy Awards and cited as Critic’s Choice in the New York Times and Boston Globe. She is on the faculties of Boston University and Boston Conservatory at Berklee and was twice awarded Outstanding Teacher of the Year/Best of Berklee.
