Fiction Essentials with Rich Marcello

January 25, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST

$500

This one-year course combines lectures and workshops to explore all aspects of fiction writing. We will explore different aspects of the craft, as well as focus on scenes written by students to provide positive, constructive feedback on how each author might develop his or her work.  Topics include: the anatomy of a scene, the fictive dream, point of view, voice, time, plot, tension, raising the stakes, characterization, the first and last chapter, dialogue versus narrative summary, and how to build a world.

Rich is a poet, an accomplished songwriter and musician, a creative writing teacher at Seven Bridges’ Writer Collaborative, and the author of three novels, The Color of Home, The Big Wide Calm, and The Beauty of the Fall, and the poetry collection, The Long Body That Connects Us All. Previously, he enjoyed a successful career as a technology executive, managing several multi-billion dollar businesses for Fortune 500 companies.  You can check out more about his work at www.richmarcello.com or at Amazon, Barnes and Noble or iTunes.

Prerequisites: This class is designed for active, beginning writers who want to hone their craft. Each student must be prepared to write, share work and provide feedback for fellow participants.

Year-long course fee: $500.00.  Deadline to register: January 22,2018.
