Heart Map Books (Crafts with Catherine)
Catherine Christensen has been making books and teaching book arts classes for over thirty-five years. A former public school educator and arts & crafts summer camp program director, she now divides her time between teaching traveling science workshops for Acton’s Discovery Museum and nurturing her love of maps, decorative paper making, and grandchildren.
In this workshop, Catherine combines two of her loves – bookbinding and maps – to create a unique expression of knowing someone: a heart map book!
Participants will create two hard cover books (4.75” x 4.625”) using beautiful decorative paper, book cloth and grosgrain ribbon that open to reveal a fold-up heart map (8” x 7”) inside. For Valentines Day create a deeply thoughtful gift for someone you hold dear by recording fond memories, lovable attributes, and the like along the streets. Or, engage in an exercise of self-discovery or affirmation by recording milestones or giving voice to future desires and possibilities for yourself.
Decorate the spaces between streets as much or as little as you like with an assortment of colors and/or designs.
Materials to complete 2 heart map books, including envelopes, will be provided by the instructor.
