An instructor and student show featuring over 100 works by Harvard artist Joelle Feldman and her students.
As fear and isolation gripped us all during the pandemic, our need to create and connect increased. Our group painting classes, for years a source of inspiration and bonding, moved to Zoom. We would not meet in person again for more than two years. This exhibition reflects our work “together while apart” during that time. The paintings feature the surroundings that grounded and comforted us during that anxious time. In our focus on the “ordinary” that surrounds us, we found extraordinary beauty in New England. We were reminded of our good fortune to live in a place that provides so many sources of inspiration.
The pandemic spanned the four seasons twice, and we painted them all: Gardens and local farms, ocean waves, marshes, coves and the birds in our yards and woodlands that caught our eyes. To paint is to see the world in a new light and at times, to see just how fortunate we are. To paint with friends and share their vision multiplies that feeling of well-being. I am forever grateful to my loyal students for their continued support and friendship which gives meaning to what I do.

Born and raised in Normandy, France, Joelle L. Feldman has made New England her home since 1981. Joelle’s lifelong artistic journey continued as a hobbyist until she left a corporate career in 2015 to dedicate herself to painting. She painted for many years in watercolor and oil until she discovered pastels, which have become her medium of choice. Although primarily self-taught, Joelle has learned from and studied with many of the best New England and National Master Pastelists.
Light, alignment, vibrant color and simplicity define Joelle’s work as she explores the intensity of light and saturation of color in a full range of subjects including landscapes, florals, still lifes, and the occasional figure. An award-winning artist and dedicated painting instructor, Joelle’s work has been accepted in International and US National Juried Shows and Art Associations.
