Introduction to Oil Painting with Cold Wax Medium
Cold Wax is a wonderful medium that allows the artist to achieve luminous paintings that are rich in textures. In this 6-hour workshop, participants will learn basic tools and techniques for using cold wax medium in their oil paintings. This medium has many advantages including its faster drying time, its ability to add transparency to the paint, and its malleability. It is a very forgiving medium to work with and is perfect for encouraging playful exploration and experimentation.
Cold wax medium and a variety of other additives will be provided along with many tools, texture-rich materials, and paper.
Participants are required to bring the following materials:
• 2-3 wood gesso panels or canvas panels (recommended size 12 x 12 but any size will do). (www.michaels.com; www.blick.com ; www.jerryartsarama.com )
• A variety of oil paints – primary colors; earth tones; a large tube of titanium white and/or warm white; any favorite colors (www.michaels.com; www.blick.com ;www.jerryartsarama.com )
• Freezer paper or palette paper
• 2 or 3 Palette knives
• 1-2 brayers of different sizes (www.squeegeepress.com )
• 1-2 Bowl scrapers or silicone spreaders (www.squeegeepress.com )
