NotloB Parlour Concerts presents the Josie Toney Stringband, March 21st, 7:00pm.
Josie Toney is a versatile musician drawing from a deep familial background in traditional music. Hailing from Olympia, Washington, Josie now lives in Boston, MA. Josie has performed at Festivals around the country, such as Grey Fox, FreshGrass, Old Tone, and 3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival. She is a sought after private instructor, and has taught at Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, WA, Bruce Molsky & Debra Clifford’s Old Time Rollick at Ashokan, and the Passim School of Music in Boston.
Josie is a graduate of The Berklee College of Music, where she received the Sam Eisenson Award for Country Music. In September of 2019 she won the FreshGrass fiddle championship. Josie’s acoustic string band showcases a variety of early country music, from the Old Time of the Appalachian Mountains to songs from Honky Tonk Heroes like Hank Williams and Kitty Wells. This concert will feature Sam Leslie on guitar, Gabe Hirshfeld on the banjo, and Mike Siegel on the upright bass.
“Josie Toney is one of the compelling, wonderful new voices bringing traditional music into today’s musical fabric. In performance, her lifetime and love of playing will draw you in immediately, with fearless, heartfelt singing and powerful fiddling (sometimes both at the same time, something I really love). Josie’s musical energy and chops are nothing short of uplifting, a joy to hear!” – Bruce Molsky
