Fivesparks is pleased to offer a 4-day Jazz workshop for students. We welcome back Carl Strathmeyer, owner of Minor Chord in Littleton, who will explore with the student musicians New Orleans-style Dixieland jazz as an ensemble. Sheet music will be provided, but there will also be opportunities for improvisation if a player would like. The program is designed for wind instrument players (brass and woodwinds) who have at least two years of playing experience. The ensemble is limited to five players.
The workshop will finish on Thursday with a performance for parents and friends.
The cost of the workshop, which will be held outdoors, is $125 per student.
Carl Strathmeyer has been playing trombone for over 50 years in all types of ensembles from wind ensembles to brass quintets to big bands to Dixieland groups. He studied trombone performance and music theory with the late Philip Catelinet, principal tubist with the BBC Theatre Orchesta. He also studied electron music with Jon Appleton inventor of the Synclavier, one of the first sampling synthesizers. Carl enjoys playing all genres of music but has a special love for jazz in all its forms. He is a patient and encouraging teacher who enjoys seeing students become excited by their achievement.
