Bring along your watercolor paper, paints and brushes, and together we’ll explore the ‘Vocabulary of Watercolor’! You’ll see how – through a combination of materials and techniques – you can add variety, interest and sparkle to your paintings of nature. We’ll cover the basics of wash, glazing and dry-brush (along with some other useful but less common techniques) and we’ll explore some color mixtures that are especially useful for painting nature subjects. This will be followed by a LIVE, real-time demonstration of the steps involved in painting a watercolor portrait of a songbird. The demonstration will include considerations of watercolor brushes, paints and papers, approaches to working with tone and color, various watercolor techniques and many helpful tips for creating naturalistic paintings of birds and other nature subjects.
